The original SnakeGrid technology developed at UCL is the local coordinate grid system that is defined over the length of the project and has a scaling factor of unity along the length of the project.
The SnakeGrid is produced by a proprietary software package called SnakeGrid Maker. The use of this package does require skill, knowledge and expertise in surveying and coordinate geometry. Currently the SnakeGrids are produced by Jon Iliffe. The output of the SnakeGrid Maker package is a parameter file used by other software packages to perform coordinate conversions.

This parameter file is then used in conjunction with a software package called SnakeGrid to allow coordinate conversion.
